Volusia County Seeks Community Participation and Input on

$133.5 Million Hurricane Milton Recovery Funding

VOLUSIA COUNTY, FLORIDA – Volusia County announces a series of public meetings, a public hearing, and the availability of an unmet needs survey to engage the community in the use of $133,515,000 in Community Development Block Grant-Disaster Recovery (CDBG-DR) funds awarded by the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD). These initiatives are designed to support the community’s recovery and mitigation efforts following Hurricane Milton, focusing on infrastructure restoration, housing repair or replacement, economic revitalization, and disaster mitigation.

Residents can learn about potential program operations and provide feedback during the sessions listed below, each taking place from 5 to 6:30 p.m. Those attending can complete the unmet needs survey in person. There will be no presentation during these meetings, but staff will be on hand to listen to the public’s input.

  • Thursday, Jan. 23: New Smyrna Beach Regional Library, 1001 S. Dixie Freeway
  • Friday, Jan. 24: Pictona at Holly Hill, 1060 Ridgewood Ave.
  • Monday, Jan. 27: Deltona Regional Library, 2150 Eustace Ave.
  • Wednesday, Jan. 29: Daytona Beach Regional Library, 105 Jackie Robinson Parkway

A public hearing is scheduled for Thursday, Feb. 6, in the County Council Chambers at the Thomas C. Kelly Administration Center, 123 W. Indiana Ave., DeLand. Staff will present information on the funds’ possible utilization and invite public comment. The date for a second public hearing will be announced later during the public comment period for the drafted action plan.

The unmet needs survey is also available at www.transform386.org and www.volusia.org. The survey will remain open until the action plan has been developed. A direct link to the survey may also be found here. All residents, regardless of whether they were directly affected by Hurricane Milton, are encouraged to participate in the survey to help shape the allocation and focus of the recovery funds.

Volusia County will manage the recovery funds through its Transform386 initiative, which is also responsible for overseeing the $328.9 million in CDBG-DR funds previously allocated for Hurricane Ian recovery.
